Abstract This paper is concerned with the development of a new incremental formulation in the time domain for linear, non-aging viscoelastic materials undergoing mechanical deformation. Stress relaxation phenomenon is important because it underlines the behavior of material model when it is unloaded. During creep the material tends to flow with constant stress. The limitations of the additive model were clearly revealed. Creep and Relaxation of Nonlinear Viscoelastic Materials: With an Introduction to Linear Viscoelasticity William N. Quasi-static mechanical behaviors of ACF were studied through tests of uniaxial tension, creep-recovery, and stress relaxation. Nonlinear Viscoelasticity is more suitable for modeling biological soft tissue materials since it can accommodate large displacements. Aleksey Drozdov and AlDorfmann [2] derive constitutive equations for the nonlinear viscoelastic behaviour after performing tensile relaxation tests. Professor Feng Yuanzhen made of nonlinear viscoelastic materials, the quasi-linear theory. The viscoelastic relaxation modulus obtained for the same material from the linear viscoelastic measurements was used to describe the behavior in the nonlinear regime for validating the class of the additive constitutive models. Nonlinear deformations: ^ Nonlinear mechanical experiments, including stress-strain behavior, stress relaxation and creep/recovery were conducted on an unfilled lightly cross-linked SBR. Creep and Relaxation of Nonlinear Viscoelastic Materials: With an Introduction to Linear Viscoelasticity. It gives us an idea about the manner in which the stresses are relieved and variation of stress with constant strains during unloading condition. Bland, The Theory of Linear Viscoelasticity, New York: Pergamon Press, 1960. Et al., Creep and Relaxation of Nonlinear Viscoelastic Materials , 1990. And Munz, D., Stress Intensity factors and Weight Functions , 1997. With spherical indenters the use of linearly viscoelastic models for characterization of a material creep or relaxation function is straightforward. Orange relaxation curve in Figure 5 (6) This model can explain the complicated relaxation. Most of analytical [6-7] have applied the incremental formulation in order to evaluate creep crack growth process in viscoelastic media. G., Nonlinear Mechanics , 1998. For analysis of experimental data has progressed substantially. I find that much more work is published on the nonlinear elasticity aspects of soft materials and potentially important time effects get missed; especially in impact loading the time element is a critical consideration.
